Silencios Pintados – The Exhibition at San Miguel de Allende “La Aurora”

Artist Statement — Sebastián Beckmann

My work reflects the customs of my culture — a mirror where life and death, festivity and solemnity, intertwine. Día de Muertos, with its intensity of color, illuminated faces, and the deep shadows of the night, becomes a visual territory in which I explore the visible and the symbolic.

Trained in New York within the disciplines of portrait and fashion photography, my vision merges technical precision with cultural emotion. These images, conceived as limited and certified fine-art editions, are created to engage in dialogue with contemporary exhibition spaces.

Each photograph seeks not to explain but to reveal: the collective identity of a people who celebrate by remembering, the strength of a face painted as a catrina, and the energy of a crowd dancing among candles, flowers, and shadows.

This series stands as an homage to memory and to the luminous permanence of one of Mexico’s most profound traditions.

Opening piece: A unique 1/1 print, created in collaboration with sculptor Mario Oliva. This work fuses photography and sculpture into a single vision, a union of form and spirit. Printed on Hahnemühle museum grade paper with archival pigments, it stands as an unrepeatable artwork, the only existing piece of its kind.
